Vision

Find out about our vision

The Civil Justice Observatory was established in 2024 following the release of the Wayfinding for Civil Justice Report.

Our Vision

Our vision is to provide access to justice for New Zealanders.

What drives us

We know that many people struggle to access justice and there is a lot of legal need in our communities that goes unmet. We know that many people struggle to access the formal justice system because of a range of different barriers and that many people walk away. We want to do something about this.

Bringing our vision to life

We are starting with our free advocacy service to help people use consensus-based resolution services. We intend to expand our core services to include:

  • peer support services

  • legal services for appeals

Our collaboration with the ACC Dispute Resolution Sector

We will be working with all stakeholders in the ACC sector. We will work with other organisations to facilitate access to:

  • timely consensus-based dispute resolution services

  • independent expert evidence

  • the law relevant to our sector

Our collaboration with the dispute resolution sector

We work with others in the dispute resolution sector to implement standards and improve the maturity of New Zealand's Dispute Resolution System.
